Douglas PerlmanSports Media Advisors, Founder and CEO
Doug Perlman is a veteran sports media executive who held senior leadership roles at the National Hockey League and IMG before founding Sports Media Advisors in 2009. SMA is a boutique advisory firm focused on the intersection of sports, television and digital media. Since founding the firm, Perlman has worked on all of SMA’s client engagements in a variety of capacities, including work with the NFL, NASCAR, USTA, UFC, Twitter, IMG, PGA Tour, MLB, NextVR, Hockey Canada, Little League, Goldman Sachs, Omnigon and Silver Chalice.
Perlman has been named to the Sports Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 three times, earned a spot in their Hall of Fame, and been recognized by The Sporting News as one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Sports.
He began his career as an attorney at Proskauer Rose, a leading global law firm with the nation’s top sports law practice. At Proskauer, he focused on sports and entertainment law before joining the National Hockey League, a firm client, as Associate Counsel.
Perlman quickly segued into a business role at the NHL and spent more than 10 years at the league serving in a variety of capacities. He ultimately headed up all of the League’s well-regarded television and digital media efforts as Executive Vice President, Media and a member of the Commissioner’s senior management team. In this role he was responsible for the League’s network television deals and partnerships, led the launch of the League’s cable network (The NHL Network) and oversaw all aspects of the League’s digital businesses, including rights negotiations, business development, production and sales.
Following the NHL, Perlman joined IMG, a global leader in the sports, entertainment and media industry. He was appointed President of IMG Media, North America where he again oversaw the television and digital media businesses including strategy, rights negotiations, new business initiatives, production and distribution. He was also a member of IMG’s six-member global leadership team.
Doug is a graduate of Duke University where he received a BA, cum laude, in political science and of the University of Virginia where he received his J.D. He lives in New Canaan, CT with his wife, Lisa, and their three boys.
Steve SolomonSenior Advisor
Steve Solomon, founder and CEO of SJS Sports, is one of the media industry's most well respected leaders. He has been working with Doug Perlman for over 15 years. Steve and his firm provide senior advisory counsel to SMA and its clients. SMA and SJS also collaborate on numerous engagements. In addition to his background at media companies and sports leagues, Steve brings significant consulting, advisory and investing experience to SMA. Steve founded SJS, which has provided consulting services for Major League Soccer, Sports Illustrated, Octagon Worldwide, ESPN, NASCAR, The National Hockey League, The Southeast Conference, The New York Road Runners, Little League International, The New York Red Bulls, Anschutz Entertainment Group, Stats Inc., John Hancock, Sportvision, Tickets.com, Trakus, ExpertMedic and others.
Prior to the creation of his successful advisory firm, Steve was employed by Univision Communications Inc., the leading Spanish-language television broadcaster, as President of its sports division. In that role, he was responsible for the acquisition of all sports properties for the Univision Network as well as having overall responsibility for the Company's cable network, Galavsion.
Prior to Univision, Steve served as the Executive Vice President and COO of the National Hockey League, where he was responsible for the management of the League's broadcasting, technology, marketing and public relations operations, as well as having overall responsibility for the business activities of NHL Enterprises, the marketing and merchandising arm of the league.
From 1972 to 1992, Steve was with ABC. In 1986 he joined ABC SPORTS as Senior Vice President, Sports Planning and Administration.
He ultimately served as Executive Vice President of Programming and Administration where he was responsible for the business operations of the network's sports division, including programming and acquisition of rights, marketing, finance, administration, and on-air promotion and advertising.
From 1968 to 1972 Mr. Solomon served as an appellate litigator for the National Labor Relations Board.
Steve serves on the Board of Overseers for Athletics for Tufts University, on the Boards of Directors for Sportvison, Trakus, and Sports Technology Inc. In addition, Mr. Solomon served as a member on the National Awards Committee for the Television Academy, as a member of the Board of Directors for the Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum, the Board of Directors for USA Hockey, as well as the New York City Sports Commission.
A native of New York, Steve is a graduate of Tufts University and St. John's University Law School. Steve lives in New York City and Redding Connecticut with his wife Laura and has three children.
Dan ShevchikVice President
Dan Shevchik joined SMA in 2009 after completing a Masters in Business Administration degree at Stanford University. Since joining SMA, Mr. Shevchik has worked with the firm’s clients on a variety of strategic initiatives with an emphasis on rights valuation and multi-platform media strategies. Clients he has worked extensively with include the UFC, USTA, NASCAR, Twitter, MLB, IMG, Little League, Hockey Canada, Omnigon, the New York Red Bulls, the CHL, NextVR and the Westminster Kennel Club.
Before Stanford, Mr. Shevchik worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Compass Advisers in London, advising corporations and private equity firms on a wide range of transactions with a focus in media. He received an A.B. in Applied Mathematics Economics from Harvard College, cum laude, where he captained the Varsity Swim Team. Mr. Shevchik is a former member of the U.S. National Swim Team, winning a bronze medal in the 200 meter backstroke at the 1999 Pan American Games.
A native of Wilton, CT, Mr. Shevchik resides in New Canaan, CT with his wife, Sarah and son, Will.
Greg Chatzinoff joined SMA in 2016 after receiving his Masters in Business Administration from NYU Stern. While enrolled at Stern, Mr. Chatzinoff interned in the Global Strategy Group at the NBA, aiding the league in evaluating investment opportunities and developing its international revenue growth strategy.
Prior to Stern, Mr. Chatzinoff worked in the Business Development group at Monumental Sports & Entertainment in Washington, D.C., advising management on a host of media transactions ranging from RSN contract renewals to the development of a cross-property digital media platform. He received a B.S. in Economics from Duke University, and has held internship positions with the New York Jets and CBS Corporation.
Mr. Chatzinoff both grew up and currently resides in New York, NY.
Zee SiddiqiBusiness Analyst
Zeeshan Siddiqi joined Sports Media Advisors after graduating with honors from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. He has worked on a number of engagements since joining SMA, including the UFC, Twitter, Little League and NASCAR.
Before SMA, Mr. Siddiqi held internship positions at a variety of firms in the sports and media space. Most recently, he was a Finance intern at Comcast/NBCUniversal where he worked closely with the Syfy’s leadership team in all aspects of the network’s financial operations. Previously, he worked as a Business Strategy intern with the Houston Rockets & Toyota Center and has also held positions at the National Basketball Players’ Association and at Sony Music Entertainment - Columbia Records.
As a part of his economics coursework at NYU, Mr. Siddiqi conducted research and identified trends in sports statistics. Most notably, he conducted econometric analysis on the clubs in the English Premier League, studying the different statistical indicators of team success.
Mr. Siddiqi grew up in Houston, TX and currently resides in New York, NY.
Amy HodginsAdministrative Director
Amy Hodgins joined Sports Media Advisors in 2015 as Administrative Director. Having worked in the financial accounting field since 1990, she has intimate knowledge of accounting systems and the ability to tailor those systems to a variety of businesses, individuals, associations and non-profit organizations.
Additionally, Amy has held several accounting and management positions in industries including retail apparel, luxury brand accessories, health care and non-profit. A native of Connecticut, Amy lives in Norwalk, CT with her husband, Luis and her two children. She enjoys spending her time volunteering with local non-profit organizations specializing in childhood education and animal welfare.
